850 versus 250
on the way to the airport on thursday - we had an extra passenger in our car, chris wood. chris oversees part of Fellowship One (this is a web database service for churches and businesses).
we were making small talk in the van on the way out of town and asked him about his experiences at other churches. he said to us, "you know what is interesting? there are two churches in dallas. both average about 18,000 people each weekend. one church has 850 people on staff. the other has 250. they rely on volunteers to be an integral part of all they do."
that is big! HUGE!
at New Life, we rely on our volunteers like crazy! that isn't a bad thing. that is calculated. if you are volunteering, you are an integral part of what we do. keep us the great work! and ask yourself, how are you using your skills to make the church a better place? in the end, staff can only do so much, and in reality, volunteers make the church what it is.

wayne cordeiro
the first session we had at the conference was with wayne cordeiro - wayne leads a church in hawaii - New Hope Fellowship. he was very engaging and a really good speaker. wayne talked about leading by listening to the spirit. his action steps? - read your bible - spend time reading scripture
- write down your thoughts - don't just read. read and then write your thoughts.
- talk about it - do this in a group session. make it a small group. everyone reads the same scriptures and everyone writes down their thoughts.
- share what you wrote - talk about what you read and wrote with a group. digest it. talk about it. enjoy it.
- pray - then pray about it! together.
our days in orlando

orlando, fl - home of the mouse and most of the golfers on the PGA. and for 1 week, home of the new church conference. so we took most of our staff down to be a part. and in anything you are a part of at NL, you end up working!
so anyone who thought we hung out at disney, laid out in the sun, or went to the beach, you would be wrong! we worked HARD! and in the end, it was all worth it.
exponential conference
gonna take the time to write on a few items from last week's conference - i think EVERYONE should go at least 1 time! it is incredible to see and talk to so many people planting churches. good stuff is happening!
the really cool part is how New Life has been a catalyst in the church planting world! to know this church is impacting church planters - but even better - impacting people far from God through church planting is so HUGE!
so know this, YOU are impacting lives being here at New Life! so when you serve, you impact lives. when you give, you impact lives. when you love on somebody, you impact lives. so don't stop...

virginia tech tragedy
it's hard to believe something like this could happen in today's world - at the same time, it doesn't surprise me that something like this happened in today's world. i am still in shock about the events that took place yesterday in blacksburg.
i was born in radford, va, and still have family who live in that area, so for us, tech was a part of our culture growing up. plus, having family members who went and graduated from there, it hits too close to home as may be true for many of you.
as you may know, 3 of the students (including the shooter) are from centreville and went to westfield high school (where our centreville campus meets each week). please make sure you say a prayer for these families. life has changed forever for them.

350
how many people came out this sunday morning for easter!
that's 350 people's lives we impacted this week!
that's REALLY BIG!
the thought is by the end of october, we should be running 350 based on easter. let's see what we can do!
again, it's not the numbers, its the lives we are impacting...

easter sunday!
this weekend may have been my favorite sunday ever - sure, it was easter. but there was just a really good 'vibe' in the place this weekend. music was really good, videos were funny, i thought the message went really well (and a bit creative), and the end of the service was incredible!
that being said, the best part were the stories. the stories of new people coming for the first time. why? because someone had asked them to. maybe a long time ago, but for some reason they jumped in their car and came this weekend. cool stuff!
many of these new people said - 'this isn't what i thought it was going to be like' - and in a good way! to me, that is HUGE! that is why we do what we do - to impact lives of people who think church and a connection with Christ isn't what they thought it would be.
good job to everyone and keep on trucking forward!

important conversations
tonight, we sat down with john stirrup - the gainesville area supervisor. had a really good conversation with him about our community centers and about the future of one here in the haymarket area. he gave us some thoughts on some potential land in the area. good spots - we'll see where it leads...
keep your eyes and ears open and keep asking God to lead us...something great will happen...

weekend wrap-up

we had a really eventful weekend this week at haymarket - on saturday, we got our toys out and helped make 2 easter egg hunts in the area better than they were.
the evergreen fire department had their annual hunt and they used our moonbounce, cotton candy machine, and sno-cone machine. i had the chance to talk to them afterwards and they LOVED our toys! i'm sure we'll hook up with them again soon.
we also brought out the ice cream truck (ict) - handed out LOTS of popsicles - and popped massive amounts of popcorn (until the popcorn machine pooped out courtesy of the ict) at dominion valley country club. at 1 o'clock the kids were like swarms of locust looking for eggs. at 1:10, they were a swarm of gnats trying to get ice cream and popcorn from us. again, great stuff!
overall, we probably served 500 people on saturday!
that's what we are about - serving our community. and seeing smiles and hearing thanks yous from people who aren't a part of our church. make sure to help out next time! it's worth it!
sunday morning, we talked about our vision as a church - impacting our communities through community centers. great feedback from people about the future and these centers. i hope you are as excited as i am about our present and our future!
stay tuned...
